About Us

Danfay first opened it's doors on a snowy March 1st 1965.

It's founders , Danny Keany and Fay McHenry combined their names to give the company it's name.

Managing to secure the distribution rights for Yamaha here in Ireland, after multiple letters back and forth with the manufacturer in Japan.

Not many people know, but Ireland was one of the very first markets to import Yamaha motorcycles from outside of Japan, leading to a wonderful relationship that endures to this day.

Due to the high import tax on fully built vehicles, both cars and motorcycles, it was more economical for assembly to occur in Ireland. By the end of the 1960's, Danfay was distributing 2,500 bikes across the country per year, leading to the company becoming a household name.

Danny, loved motorcycle racing, getting involved in every aspect of the sport. From competing himself, to supplying parts machinery and sponsorships to many great riders for decades.

Danfay experienced strong growth, eventually taking on Yamaha Marine, ATV , Golf Cars and recreational vehicles, all of which we still proudly distribute today.

At one point, Danfay was the only Yamaha distributor in the world to care for both Motor and Music distribution simultaneously.

We are happy to say that Derek Keany, Danny's son, is leading the way and carrying the torch of the family business into the future.

On March 1st 2024 , Derek opened the doors of Danfay Newlands, another snowy morning , just like the very first day of Danfay back in 1965.

We can't wait to see what the next chapter of Danfay's story will be and share it with you over the coming years.

Thanks for being apart of it, and coming along for the ride!
